About Us (the Magstand staff and stuff)

History: Magstand was born from an idea Chad Edge (see below) had a little over two years ago (that would be about 2005).
You see, Chad was having a problem finding an intelligent way to manage all his print subscriptions (magazines and trade journals). There's a pretty good example Chad likes to throw around:

Awhile back, I was reading through an issue of Macworld, when I came across an interesting article on controlling a Mac Mini using a Bluetooth cellphone.
As my wife and I had a Mac Mini, I was interested. Unfortunatly, neither of us had Bluetooth-enabled cellphones, so when I was done with the magazine, it went into the Macworld shelf and there it stayed.
Fast forward a few months later, and I was the proud owner of a Blackberry 8700g (a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone). To my dismay, however, I couldn't remember what Macworld issue the article appeared, and the Macworld Web site was no help.
I figured there had to be an easier way...

And that's how it all began. With extensive research, partnership discussions with major publishers and subscription managers, Magstand is getting a great start. Not only are we gearing up to solve the first major problem (how do I find what I already own!), we're looking forward to even bigger issues:

  • How do I know if I should purchase a subscription of a new magazine?
  • How can I keep a 'morguefile,' without harming the magazines themselves?
  • How can I manage my magazines when I want, where I want?
  • How can I purchase just the articles I want from back issues, when I want?

As you can see, Magstand has a lot going for it, and a lot of ground to still cover in the future.

Staff: Chad Edge - Owner and creator.
Chad is a seasoned Web and media developer, having worked over thirteen years in various media-generating industries as print, Web and video. Chad's experience has proven beneficial in bringing daily newspapers more value in multimedia publication and distribution on both coasts of the United States.
His varied experience (and we mean varied: snowboard design, semiconductor testing and tooling, all manner of programming languages, video and more!) will prove invaluable to magstand.

Justine Michele Edge - Designer.
I'm the oldest of three, raised a farm-girl in rural Blaine, WA. In 2000, I moved to Seattle to study design at Cornish College of the Arts, and haven't looked back. Now, an urban-living graphic artist, I grin at the smell of lead type and printing ink, revel in the red light of a darkroom, thrive in a battle as to why a good typeface simply shouldnŐt be stretched, and live for the thrill of a rowdy brainstorming session with my design peers. I also love trying new restaurants, picnics, snow, hiking, jammies and soft sheets, falling asleep during movies, red wine, candles, coffee, knitting long scarves, attempting to breakdance, and almost anything art/design related.
